How It Works

From first call to
long-term hire — we lead the way.

1
Initial Contact & Needs Assessment
We reach out or you contact us. We book a 45-minute site visit or call to understand your business, your open roles, your workplace culture, and your ideal candidate profile.
2
Candidate Selection & Preparation
We review our active client pool, select 2–3 candidates who fit your requirements, and prepare them thoroughly with role-specific coaching and sector training before you meet anyone.
3
Facilitated Interview
We arrange and facilitate the interview. If helpful, an Employment Advisor attends to provide communication support. We debrief with both parties afterward to ensure alignment.
4
Work Exposure or Direct Placement
You choose: direct hire, or a Work Exposure placement to observe the candidate in your environment first. We document the Work Maintenance Plan and handle all agreement paperwork.
5
Onboarding Support & Check-Ins
Our Advisors check in during the first two weeks on-site. We then follow up at 1, 3, 6, and 12 months — with both you and your new employee — to ensure lasting retention.
6
Ongoing Partnership
Once we know your business, future placements are faster and better matched. Many employers return to us repeatedly as their trusted recruitment partner — at zero cost every time.

Program Results

Built for lasting employment.

We measure success by retention, not just placement. Our employer partnerships are designed to deliver employees who stay.

“The team handled everything — the paperwork, the interview setup, the follow-up calls. We just showed up and met someone who turned out to be a great fit. We’ve since hired two more through the program.”

Warehouse Operations Manager
Edmonton, AB — Logistics & Distribution

“We were skeptical at first — we’d used recruitment agencies before and always paid for the privilege. North PEPS is genuinely free and the candidates arrive knowing what the job involves. That’s rare.”

Site Supervisor
Edmonton, AB — General Construction

“What we appreciate most is the 12-month follow-up. If there’s an issue at 6 months, someone actually calls. It’s not just ‘placed and forgotten.’ It feels like a real partnership.”

Common Questions

Everything you
want to know.

Can’t find what you’re looking for? Reach out directly — our Employment Advisors are available Monday to Friday.

Is there really no cost to us as an employer? +
Yes — completely. Every service provided through the North PEPS Program to employers is 100% funded by the Government of Alberta under contract with On-Site Placement Services Association (OSP). There are no fees, no invoices, no hidden charges at any stage of the process — not for candidate matching, not for Work Exposure placements, not for documentation, and not for the ongoing follow-up support.
How long does it take to get a candidate placed? +
Timelines vary depending on the complexity of the role and candidate availability in our current client pool. For straightforward positions in our active sectors (construction, warehousing, retail, transportation), employers typically meet their first candidates within one to two weeks of our initial needs assessment meeting. We’ll always be transparent about expected timelines upfront.
What is the difference between Work Exposure and Work-Based Learning? +
Work-Based Learning (WBL) is a shorter structured placement — typically 20 hours over 4 weeks — where a candidate performs real tasks in your workplace while still technically in their training stream. Work Exposure is a longer placement of up to 12 weeks that functions more like an extended trial period. Both are covered by a three-party Work Maintenance Plan and carry no financial obligation to hire.
What happens if the candidate isn’t the right fit? +
We understand that not every match works out, and we never expect you to proceed with a hire that doesn’t feel right. If a candidate isn’t a fit — whether identified during the interview, during a Work Exposure placement, or after a hire — we discuss what went wrong, refine our understanding of your requirements, and return with a better-matched candidate. There is no penalty or obligation at any stage.
Do you work with small businesses or only large employers? +
We work with businesses of all sizes — from single-location small businesses to multi-site operations. Some of our most successful long-term placements have been with small employers who provide candidates with close mentorship and a strong team environment. If you have an open role and a genuine commitment to giving someone a fair chance, we want to work with you.
What does “12-month follow-up” actually mean in practice? +
After a candidate is placed, our Employment Advisor conducts check-ins at 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, and 12 months — contacting both the employer and the employee. These calls serve to identify and resolve any emerging issues early, provide additional support if needed, and confirm retention milestones. If a problem surfaces at any check-in, we step in to help address it before it affects your team.
Can we hire someone directly without a Work Exposure first? +
Absolutely. Many employers prefer to proceed directly to a hire following the facilitated interview, particularly when the candidate’s background and assessed readiness clearly match the role. Work Exposure is offered as an option — not a requirement. We follow your preference and pace throughout the process.
How do we get started? +
Reach out to us using the contact details below. We’ll schedule a brief 15-minute introductory call to confirm your hiring needs and determine the best next steps. From there, we book an on-site or virtual needs assessment and begin the matching process. There is no paperwork at this stage — just a conversation.
